DG's Bungalow turned into reader's hostel: National Library Kolkata

The official residence cum Bungalow of the director general of the National Library of India, Kolkata has turned into hostel cum guest house for the readers of the National Library. Many readers are came from outside and they have problem to stay during their study days. Now the National Library decided to convert the DG's bungalow into hostel for the readers. The National Library of India is a library located in Belvedere Estate, Alipore, Kolkata, India. It is India's largest library by volume and public record. The National Library is under Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Currently, Dr. Prof. Ajay Pratap Singh working as Director General (additional) who is Director General of Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata since 2020. The library is designated to collect, disseminate and preserve printed material produced within India. With a collection in excess of 2.2 million books and records, it is the largest in the country. Before independence, it was the official residence of Governor-General of India.

There was a  Bungalow or official residence for the Director General (DG) of the National Library, which has been locked from years as the permanent post of the Director General (DG) is vacant from a few years. As per the information, the structure of the DG's Bungalow was for a guest house or hostel. But as it was not used for that purpose at that time, This place was the residence of the DG and the  Librarians of the National Library. Now it goes to its original purpose.

Then the Residence of the Governor-General of India turned into a Library, Now the residence of Director General of the National Library turned into the reader's hostel and guest house. It shows the importance of library and library readers. A good decision taken by the National Library of India.
